He is an apartheid baby who wants that system back. Born in Pretoria, therefore the politics.
The claim you picked He is an apartheid baby who wants that system back. Born in Pretoria, therefore the politics.
Birthplace is not a manifesto. He left at 17. Criticizing post-apartheid crime is not a vote for the National Party.
What is true
He was born in Pretoria in 1971 into a well-off white family under apartheid. That is true, and it is not a small fact. The leap to “he supported the regime / wants it restored” needs evidence of his political acts then. It is thin.
Apartheid was the air of his childhood. Grandparents on his mother’s side had an unusual, sometimes ugly political history (the Haldemans’ migration through apartheid-adjacent and conspiracist politics is in the biographies). Elon has said he found the system wrong and left.
His later comments on South African farm murders, “white genocide” phrasing, and the ANC are inflammatory and often sloppy with stats. That is a real media problem. It is still a different claim from “he is an apartheid restorationist.” Plenty of South Africans of his generation left; few of them are running car companies. Use the words he uses now, not a nationality as a moral pre-crime.
