Landing rockets is a circus trick. Reuse does not actually save money.
The claim you picked Landing rockets is a circus trick. Reuse does not actually save money.
Falcon 9 flybacks are the reason launch got cheap. The market voted with manifests.
Falcon 9 first stages now fly many times — double-digit reuse is routine, with some boosters past 30. Catalog prices around the mid-tens of millions of dollars undercut Ariane 5/6 and historical ULA prices by a wide margin. Internal marginal cost is widely estimated far below the list price, which is why SpaceX can flood the manifest with Starlink and still sell to others.
If reuse were a party trick, competitors would ignore it. They did not: ULA, Blue Origin, Arianespace, and China are all chasing some form of recovery. NASA and the Space Force keep buying Falcon because the price and cadence showed up. Circuses do not take 80%+ of a planet’s orbital mass to orbit.
